Æmber

Bed side luminaire

Æmber is a circadian bed side luminaire that simulates the transformation in natural light. It is developed together with SAGA Space Architects.

The luminaire is programmed with a 24-hour cycle, that wakes you up with bright cool light and changes to a warm, non-disruptive light after 7pm – all this to maintain a stable circadian rhythm.

Inspired by the Fresnel lens, it uses an optical prism pattern to emit asymmetrical, focused light, that is good for reading and only wakes the person sleeping right next to it.

The up and down light is inspired by the observation of skylight and sunlight being two separated kinds – one distant and diffuse, bounced off the ceiling, the other one bright and focused, creating sharper shadows.
