Sun in Space
An artificial sunrise and sunset
At the ISS the sun rises and sets 16 times within a human day. To maintain the body’s circadian rhythm in a 24-hour day cycle, the lights at the station change intensity and temperature during the day. However, these changes have close to zero visual diversity.
With this project we created a luminaire that complements the existing general lighting at the International Space Station, providing a visceral transformation between the night and day settings.
