Oyster - creating with the planet in mind

With the drive to rethink waste and a focus on reusing materials, I began my project. By making informed decisions, we can create with the planet in mind and inspire others to do the same.

Embracing the concept of reusing waste materials, my project transforms discarded oyster shells into a versatile building material. The outcome is more than just a product; it’s a symbol of sustainable innovation. Utilizing discarded oyster shells, the project seeks to create functional and aesthetically pleasing items.

My goal with this project was to create a material solely from natural substances: oyster shells, fish glue, blue mussel shell, algae, potato starch, and wax. This closed-loop approach ensures minimal environmental impact, with the product’s end-of-life use as lime fertilizer enriching soil health.

This material will not only serve practical purposes but also symbolize the potential for harmony between human activities and nature. My project aims to inspire others to embrace eco-conscious design solutions and contribute to a more sustainable future.
