ENOKI
For our ancestors foraging the woods for food was an arduous and necessary activity for their survival. In Sweden today we fortunately don’t have to venture out into the wilderness to secure our survival. Today we get to have a more joyous relationship with the wild and, in a more hectic and urbanized life, that is fortunate. Foraging for mushrooms in the autumn is something many people have grown up doing and it is an activity they pass on to their children. It is a sort of a treasure hunt with a delicious end. However, getting the mushrooms from your basket into a nice meal requires a couple of caring steps.
ENOKI is a set designed to ease the process of cleaning and preparing your mushrooms. Mushrooms are delicate and the cleaning process requires a soft touch. The aim of this project was to create the tools you need while at the same time focus on sustainable materials and circular thinking.
The knife is designed with a circular approach and can easily be taken apart if something needs to be replaced or repaired. For example, if the blade would need resharpening or the brush is worn out. The handle is made from maple which is a durable and locally sourced wood.
The fabric is made of cotton canvas fabric which has been treated with beeswax in order to create a durable surface. When you are done cleaning your mushrooms you simply brush the basket clean and roll it up and store it until next adventure.
