Historical cupboard

Questioning modernity’s mass production by reinventing the pre-industrial furniture crafting ethic, highlighting the hinges of the Allmoge period.

Our present relationship with furniture is very different from how people related to it during pre-industrial times.

Today, a cupboard may be just another commodity, something replaceable that, while not lacking identity, is often removed from its original creator and reproduced on an assembly line.

Allmoge investigates a period when common people had direct relationships with carpenters, where furniture tailored to the particular environment or building was not unusual.

The cupboard functions as a historical symbol of the Allmoge period, while the room divider serves as an anachronism, reminding us that the present is in conversation with the past.
